LUSA NEWSLUSA CLASS OF 1978 HOLDS ALUMNI HOMECOMINGThe La Union Standard Academy Class of 1978 held its Silver Alumni Homecoming December 29, 2003. The whole day event was held at the La Union Standard Academy school grounds. LUSA Classes of 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, and 1981 were also in attendance. The event
was made possible by the Homecoming organizers led by Maribel Runes and Mercy Grace D. Haag in coordination
with the LUSA Faculty. Contributions by Gloria Camacho, Digna Crispino, Jesus Dugenia, Cesar Gumba,
Nestor Octaviano, Lemuel Sudiacal and Gina Marie Wenceslao Hidalgo were also invaluable to the Homecomings' success.
Homecoming Perspective: March 1978, that was the last time I was in LUSA. Not that I didn’t want to go back. After graduating that year came college, then work, then marriage, then kids and then just like that, 25 years have passed by. I felt lost my first time back in LUSA because I could have sworn the school lay-out was different. Then Ong informed me about the fire in 1996. I was now standing on the lot next to the old school grounds. So the school has changed and so have we. Physical changes were evident. Twenty-five years added a couple of pounds for others. The same number of years diminished some hairlines. Spouses and kids were added. And then there were those who haven’t changed at all. You could dress them up in the same LUSA uniforms and won’t see any difference 25 years later. It was nice to see everybody. It was nice to see the same mannerisms that some still have. Hear the same laugh. Hear the nicknames that I haven’t heard in years, Jampong, Billit, Atong, Plok. It was nice to hear funny stories that happened 25 years ago. It was funny then, it’s even funnier now that were older. And of course it was nice to see our teachers; Ms Claro, Ms Sobejana, Ms Calica, Ms Capito and Ms Manongdo, who 25 years ago sent us out to the world and were gracious again to spend time with us. Some classmates were not able to attend the homecoming so I hope I see them next time. Thanks to everyone who organized the event. Special mention goes to Maribel and Mercy Grace who did the planning years back. To all LUSA Alumni, I hope this website serve as a tool in keeping in touch with your high school classmates. -Ben Baladad '78 |
